Green Party Gathering

We are excited to invite you to an in-person gathering in Bellingham at the Central Library on Saturday, December 9th from Noon – 2pm!

This will be an opportunity for you to meet with Green Party organizers and supporters, plus you will get to meet and chat with our 2nd District Congressional Candidate, Jason Call!

Here’s the address for the Gathering:

Central Library at 210 Central Ave, Bellingham, WA 98225

From Jason:

“I’m looking forward to this opportunity to meet with Bellingham area Green Party members. Some of you may have been aware of my prior two runs against Rick Larsen, as a progressive Democrat. Our prior efforts were successful in building progressive and left solidarity, but there is more work to be done to get to a primary win. There are so many reasons that now is the time for Greens to organize and demand a better future. Solidarity!”

Jason Call for Congress Town Hall

Join us on Sunday, October 15th at 4pm PT / 7pm ET for a Town Hall conversation with Washington State Green Party Congressional candidate Jason Call

Register here

The Green Party of Washington is excited to introduce Jason to a national audience!

Jason is a lifelong progressive activist on issues ranging from healthcare to education to peace action to climate action. He is a former high school math teacher of almost two decades and was elected to the board of his local Education Association for a number of years. He has been active in ballot initiative efforts over the last decade, including I-502 which legalized cannabis in Washington (first in the nation), I-1433 which gave Washington the highest minimum wage in the country, and I-735 which saw Washington become the 18th State to support the movement to Amend the Constitution and overturn Citizens United. Jason has served for 5 years on the board of Whole Washington (wholewashington.org), one of the strongest state-based single-payer organizations in the country.

Jason has run for the WA-02 Congressional seat twice before and came in a close 3rd place both times in the ‘Top Two’ primary. A 2nd place finish would put Jason through to the general election against the corporate-funded incumbent, an outcome that is eminently winnable.

Jason’s website is detailed, with in-depth policy positions, gold star opposition research on the incumbent (a fossil fuel and war machine-backed Democrat seeking his 13th term), media spots, press releases, and op-eds from prior races, and also explains why Jason left the Democrats to join the Green Party.

This race is a real opportunity, with the potential to see the first Green member of Congress!

We look forward to this online event, and we encourage you to come and meet this engaging, knowledgeable, and experienced candidate!

Race and Politics: Intersectional Barriers & Opportunities with David Cobb and ChrisTiana ObeySumner

An online event with ChrisTiana ObeySumner and David Cobb

You are invited!

Join former Green Party Presidential Candidate David Cobb for an online event in support of ChrisTiana ObeySumner, candidate for Seattle City Council.

ChrisTiana (they/them) is the Green Party-preferred candidate running to represent Seattle’s north end with a message of racial, economic, and environmental justice. Their policy priorities align with the Green Party, especially in areas of housing, justice reform, transportation, and homelessness.

“When we center those most intersectionally impacted by policy,

we create collective, effective, and sustainable solutions for all communities.”

-ChrisTiana ObeySumner

ChrisTiana is a former social worker and is now the principal of a social equity consulting firm that specializes in social change, intersectionality, antiracism, and disability justice. Their perspective as an autistic and chronically ill 37-year-old Black nonbinary person gives them the lived experience needed to craft and pass policies that benefit the most people. ChrisTiana would be one of the first openly neurodiverse people to serve on the City Council in a major city like Seattle.

David Cobb is a long-time national leader with the Green Party and was the campaign manager for Green candidate Jill Stein in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. He brings experience working with the party to reframe their mission through an anti-racist lens and also focuses on getting money out of politics. David played a significant role in Washington State’s Initiative 735, which put the state on record to support overturning the Citizens United Supreme Court ruling.

You are invited to join the conversation and support ChrisTiana’s run!

Seattle’s local campaigns are publicly financed through a system where every voter gets $100 in Democracy Vouchers to give to candidates. All US voters can also donate up to $300 to the campaign, and there are strict spending limits.

ChrisTiana is the type of candidate that Democracy Vouchers were designed to benefit, and 85% of their funding has come through public financing. Christiana is the people-powered candidate in the race as almost 1,500 people have given to their campaign! ChrisTiana’s opponent is the business-backed candidate and has contributed over $30,000 of their money to their own campaign.

The EcoAction Committee will hold a webinar on End Fossil Fuels on Monday, September 11 at 5 PM Pacific Time to plan for the NYC March and Rally on September 17th.

RSVPs are needed.

The War at Home: Dissent and Repression

  • Sponsored by the Peace Action Committee

  • September 6, 2023 at 5:00 PM PT

  • You Must Pre-Register for the Webinar

All wars begin with lies, and the lies serve to conceal the real motives for war. Government motives for mass killing (war) include war machine profits, geopolitics, and plundering of resources. As the general population uncovers the real reasons for the war, government propaganda becomes less effective, which leads to growing dissent and repression of dissent.

Currently over 61% of people polled (according to CNN) no longer want weapons sent to continue the proxy war in Ukraine. The U.S. government has begun to use repressive measures against anti-war groups. In our webinar, you will hear from dissenters and from those who have witnessed and experienced repression. It is in the interest of all of us to support dissenters and expose and support those who have been harmed by repressive measures. We welcome your participation in this webinar and your support of the right to dissent.

Panelists:

  • Akile Anai — Akilé Anai is Director of the Department of Agitation and Propaganda of the African People’s Socialist Party, guiding a multi-platform media operation.

  • Diego Motta — Attorney and member of the leadership of the organization “Izquierda Socialista de Peru.” He is also a neighborhood leader in the district of Carabayllo, Lima.

Earth Day to May Day 2023

Register for this Zoom event at https://bit.ly/3G8u3An

The EcoAction Committee of the Green Party of the U.S. will hold a webinar forum on Monday, April 10 about the importance of this year’s Earth Day to May Day activities. The event, which begins at 5:00 PM PT, is part of the national day to build the Green Party. RSVP is required.

The webinar will outline how green activists can build support for system change, not climate change, by organizing local educational events, protests, vigils, social media, LTE, call-ins, etc. from Earth Day (April 22) to May Day.

An important part is building solidarity among the various movement demanding systemic change, such as Black Lives Matter, women’s rights, GLBQT, rights of nature, public power, peace, and worker and immigrant rights.

Speakers on April 10 will address the need for the climate movement to be more anti-capitalist, as well as the need for an Ecosocialist Green New Deal; biodiversity / RON; ending single-use plastics and halting fossil fuels; the role of the military on climate; and, how to promote Green living.

Speakers include Mark Dunlea, co-chair of EcoAction and author of Putting Out the Planetary Fire (link for free internet/pdf copy); Dawn Marie Cronen, co-chair of EcoAction, speaking on Green Living; and Prof. David Schwartzman, EcoAction member from DC and climate scientist, speaking on climate change and the military.

__________________
The Earth Day to May Day theme highlights the interconnection between critical issues such as climate change, environmental justice, worker and immigrant rights, peace, anti-racism, and biodiversity.

We need system change, not climate change. Another World is essential to the future of humanity. Please join us in this struggle by organizing events to highlight, “People, Planet and Peace over Profit.” The EcoAction Committee of the Green Party of the United States wants to help you organize rallies, forums, direct actions, and call-ins to demand change from April 22 to May 1.

The United Nations has sounded the alarm that the steps taken by governments since the Paris Climate Accords six years ago are grossly inadequate to prevent climate collapse – or even to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees C. At the present rate of emissions, we will use up our “remaining carbon budget” in 6 years. We need to act now, not call for fake goals such as net zero by 2050.

In 2010, the Green Party of the United States launched a call for an ecosocialist Green New Deal (GND). We understood that in order to accomplish a rapid, ten-year transition to clean renewable energy and zero greenhouse gas emissions, the effort needed to transform to a society based on social and economic justice for everyone: no one must be left behind. It needs to embrace an Economic Bill of Rights based on a guaranteed living-wage job and income, expanded and improved Medicare for All, affordable housing, and education. We must end capitalism and replace it with a commitment to the common good and democratic control and public/community/worker ownership of our economy.

EcoAction is part of the People vs. Fossil Fuels effort to halt fossil fuels and to get President Biden to declare a climate emergency and take executive action as outlined in ClimatePresident.org.

Movements for democracy & justice are rising up at home and around the globe – Black Lives Matter; resistance to student debt & school-to-prison pipelines; movements for the rights of workers, immigrants, women, LGBTQ & Indigenous peoples; for sustainable food, water, & renewable energy; Rights of Nature; uprisings against tar sands, fracking, nuclear power, GMOs & more. The accelerating climate collapse intensifies all of these struggles and provides new urgency for collaboration & action.

We have the solutions to build a sustainable world – what we lack is the political will to do so. As former President Eisenhower warned, 0ur political leaders are subservient to the military-industrial complex that always seek new wars – in the Middle East, Ukraine, South America – and conflicts with China and Russia. The bloated material budget needs to be slashed at least in half and redirected to human needs and the transition to a clean energy future. End war and imperialism.

EcoAction seeks to work in collaboration with the many movements working for fundamental system change as part of the Earth Day to May Day effort.
