Justice for Zahid Chaudhry!

Statement in Support of Zahid Chaudhry

We are outraged and deeply saddened by the unjust detention of Zahid Chaudhry, a disabled U.S. military veteran, community leader, and loving husband, who has lived in this country for 25 years. Zahid came to the United States legally, wore the uniform of our military, and made enormous sacrifices in service to this nation. He sustained disabling injuries during military training in 2003, was medically discharged in 2005, and has since continued to serve his community as a dedicated member of Veterans for Peace.

It is unconscionable that someone who has risked his life for this country, who is married to a U.S. citizen, and who has built his entire life here, should face the threat of deportation. Detaining Zahid during a citizenship interview at the USCIS office in Tukwila, Washington, is a cruel betrayal of the values of justice, compassion, and respect for veterans.

This act is not only an attack on Zahid – it is an attack on every immigrant who has served, every family that has sacrificed, and every community that believes in fairness and dignity. We condemn this injustice in the strongest possible terms.

We stand in full solidarity with Zahid and his family. We demand his immediate release from ICE detention and an end to the deportation proceedings against him. Zahid belongs here, with his wife, his community, and the country he has already given so much to.

We will not be silent while our government treats veterans and immigrants with such cruelty. We call on all people of conscience to speak out, organize, and demand justice for Zahid Chaudhry.

Justice for Zahid. Stop the deportations. Honor our veterans.

Seattle Police Clash with Trans Rights Protesters at Anti-Trans Rally

By Michael Doyle, Green Party of Washington

On Saturday, May 24, 2025, Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood became the epicenter of a tense confrontation between law enforcement and protesters during a conservative Christian rally organized by Mayday USA. The event, held at Cal Anderson Park—a hub of Seattle’s LGBTQ+ community—was met with a vigorous counter-protest by approximately 500 individuals opposing the rally’s anti-trans and anti-queer rhetoric.

The rally, part of Mayday USA’s “#Dontmesswithourkids” tour, was perceived by many as provocatively held in the city’s LGBTQ+ neighborhood. Protesters clashed with police, leading to 23 arrests during a five-hour confrontation that involved shoving, thrown objects, and pepper spray.

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell suggested the rally was intentionally provocative and noted anarchists infiltrated the protest, instigating violence.

Margaret Elisabeth, Chair of the Green Party of Washington and a transgender woman, condemned the police response, stating, “The disproportionate use of force against peaceful protesters by Seattle police is unacceptable. We must stand united against hate and ensure the safety and dignity of all individuals, especially those from marginalized communities.”

The events of May 24 have sparked a broader conversation about the balance between free speech and the protection of vulnerable communities, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the transgender community in the face of rising political and social tensions.

Solidarity with Boeing Workers on Strike!

Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein and running mate Butch Ware show solidarity with the workers on strike at Boeing!

Join the picket lines with Jill Stein, Butch Ware, Kshama Sawant, and Workers Strike Back on Thursday afternoon, 9/19/2024 at Ace Aviation, 289 E Perimeter Rd, Renton.

On Friday, 9/20/2024, Jill Stein and Butch Ware will join a panel at Raisbeck Hall (2015 Boren Ave, Seattle) with local and national Black Panther Party leaders to discuss Black community issues. This event is open to the public.

On Saturday, 9/21/2024, Jill and Butch will join the Rally and Fundraiser Music Festival at Seward Park from 5 PM to close.

Jill Stein and Butch Ware will also gather with local Greens on Saturday morning, 9/21/2024 (10 AM – 12 noon). More info here!

Last week, Boeing machinists represented by IAM 751 walked out after their contract expired and 96% of Boeing workers voted to strike for higher wages.

The workers on strike are standing up for their right to be compensated fairly for their hard work. The Green Party of Washington commends their courage and insistence on respect, and they deserve our full support. Higher pay for Boeing workers sets a higher pay standard for all workers in our region: a high school graduate whose workplace is not unionized but whose industry is 25% unionized is paid 5% more than similar workers in less unionized industries.

As Greens in Washington, our solidarity is crucial. We have an opportunity to make an outsized impact here in Washington by showing our support:

  1. Join the Picket Lines: If you are able, please consider joining the workers on the picket lines wearing GREEN! Your presence will not only show your support but also strengthen the solidarity between the Green and Labor movements. Remember to bring food, water, and a sign! Picket lines will be ongoing during work hours at Boeing offices and plants throughout Washington including but not limited to:
    1. Boeing Auburn Machine Fabrication MBU
    2. Boeing Renton Factory – Join Jill Stein, Butch Ware, Kshama Sawant, and Workers Strike Back Thursday afternoon, 9/19/2024 (~ 4:30 PM)
    3. Boeing Airfield in Seattle
    4. Boeing Everett Factory
  2. Spread the Word: Use your social media platforms and personal networks to raise awareness about the strike and the issues at stake. Consider writing a letter to the editor of your local newspaper in support of the striking workers. The more people understand the importance of this struggle, the stronger the bargaining position of the workers.
  3. Contribute to Strike Funds: Many workers, particularly newer workers, are facing financial hardships during the strike. Contributions to strike funds can help provide essential support to those in need. The Green Party of Washington has agreed to match all donations up to $1,000 to our Boeing Workers Strike Support Fundraiser here:

Look for updates from the Green Party of Washington about additional solidarity efforts to support Boeing workers as the strike unfolds.

Our solidarity is a powerful tool in this life-or-death fight. By standing together, we can help ensure that the workers at Boeing and beyond achieve the fair treatment they deserve. Let us show them we are united in our support and committed to fighting for their rights.

July 30th – Seattle March for #HealthcareJustice

On July 30th, the Seattle March for #HealthcareJustice will take place on the 57th anniversary of the passage of Medicare!

You are invited to attend!

Please RSVP here.

Details are still being worked out, so be sure to RSVP to stay up to date. There are so many reasons to march for healthcare justice this year:

  • We are still deeply impacted by the COVID pandemic. A new study estimates that more than 330,000 lives could have been saved by universal healthcare.
  • We just lost Roe v. Wade – now is the time to DEMAND universal healthcare with full coverage of abortion be passed immediately to remove all financial barriers to reproductive care.
  • Medicare is currently under the attack of privatization through the REACH program – we need the Biden administration to know that we see what’s happening, and we won’t stand for it.
  • We have a serious chance at getting statewide single-payer healthcare on the ballot for Washington state!
  • The midterms are coming up soon and we need Medicare for All to be a non-negotiable electoral issue!

As with all marches, promotion and turnout are essential. Please share this action with as many people as possible and invite a friend or two to join you. We have just a few weeks before we march so this is an all-hands-on-deck moment!

This event is co-sponsored by Medicare for All EVERYWHERE, Whole Washington, the Seattle DSA Healthcare Working Group, and the Green Party of Seattle, and we expect this coalition to continue to grow. Last year’s event was an incredible success featuring fantastic speakers like Stephanie Gallardo, Nikkita Oliver, and Kshama Sawant!

We know that the community will come out again to march for healthcare justice! See you on the 30th!
