Danny Tarkenton for Spokane County Prosecutor (2026)

The Green Party of Washington supports Danny Tarkenton as our preferred candidate for Spokane County Prosecutor. The general election is on November 3, 2026.

Danny’s campaign theme and values:

My campaign’s core theme is “For Justice. For All.” I’m running on the argument that public safety comes from understanding and addressing the root causes of harm, not just punishing them (a philosophy grounded in my forensic psychology training and my experience as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney). I’ve also built my campaign around being a genuinely independent candidate with no party machine to ensure my loyalty is to the Constitution and the people of Spokane County. I intentionally do not accept endorsements from political parties. But I do stay very engaged with my community and seek support from individuals and organizations that share my values.

Social Justice and Equal Opportunity

My work as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and my advocacy under the Involuntary Treatment Act centered on ensuring people are treated fairly regardless of their circumstances, particularly those with mental illness who are too often failed by the justice system.

Nonviolence

My forensic psychology training and my platform as a candidate are both built on the understanding that punishment alone does not resolve harm. I believe in addressing the root causes of violence and conflict rather than perpetuating cycles of punitive response.

Respect for Diversity

As Vice President of Pride Law in law school, I worked to expand legal access and representation for LGBTQ+ individuals. That commitment to inclusion has stayed central to my legal career and my campaign.

Say NO to Discrimination and Division!

Brian Heywood, the California hedge fund millionaire behind the slew of bad initiatives in 2024, has launched two new Initiatives to the Legislature (I-638 and I-001). While these initiatives single out transgender and LGBTQ+ school-aged children in particular, they threaten the safety, privacy, and dignity of all students. Washington voters have rejected similar attacks before, and these measures are another attempt to sow division and distract from the real issues facing students and families.

These initiatives would:

violate student privacy
roll back Washington’s successful inclusive sports policy
restrict access to counselors and mental health support
subject all girls who wish to play with their friends on a school team to invasive and costly physical examinations
expose schools to costly lawsuits and increase stigma and bullying in classrooms across the state
