ICE OUT of our Communities: General Strike on Friday, January 30th

The violence and assaults on our civil liberties we’re seeing in Minnesota and around the country at the hands of federal agents is unconscionable. As a truly anti-war party, we understand that fascism is imperialism turned inward.

As anti-capitalists, we understand the language that the ruling class speaks and the power of withholding our labor. Fortunately, we are seeing a surge of working-class consciousness emerge in response to the Trump administration’s attacks on our communities.

The Green Party calls for abolishing ICE, and we urge everyone to heed the call for a general strike this Friday, January 30th. We must SHUT IT DOWN to ensure our collective demands are met.

Check out the Green Party of the US Latinx Caucus endorsement of the January 30th national shutdown here and the Green Party of Utah’s statement here. For more information on the general strike, you can go to nationalshutdown.org.

Beyond the general strike, we need to get organizing. As Green Party candidate for Governor of California, Dr. Butch Ware, often quotes from Malcom X: “We are not outnumbered, we are out-organized.”

We know that the pro-war, pro-corporate, pro-police state duopoly will not be coming to save us—even as we’ve reached a crisis point with lawless federal agents executing our loved ones in the streets for the crime of protecting our neighbors from being kidnapped by ICE thugs.

Finally, I’ll leave you with a statement from our own Marc Mixon, Chair of the Green Party of Washington State:

“We are living in dark times, and as the empire crumbles, the violent lashing out at home and across the world will increase. Standing up and fighting back can be scary. But they are scared, too. Scared of our collective power. Scared of our active resistance. We can beat them. If we couldn’t, they wouldn’t be spending so much time and money fighting and oppressing us. Germany fell to the Nazis because ninety percent of people allowed themselves to be bystanders…Unwilling to take a risk to do what is right. Don’t be a bystander. Doing nothing makes you complicit in the assault on our freedoms and lives. The time is now. Stand up with your community, defend the lives we love. If you won’t fight for them, who will fight for you?”

I hope you’ll let us know how you can organize with the Green Party in the coming weeks to amplify our message and challenge the powers-that-be who brought us to this moment. We’re in a fight for our lives.

In peace and solidarity,

Karissa Halstrom

Organizing for Campaigns and Endorsements in Washington

First and foremost, we want to extend a word of solidarity in light of the ICE actions currently terrorizing American cities and the escalating illegal acts of war we’re all watching take place. We hope you are taking care of yourself and your community wherever you are in Washington State.

This year demands more from all of us as we contend with the symptoms of late-stage capitalism, the blowback of US imperialism, and the knowledge that both corporate parties, whose partnership brought us to this moment, will not be coming to save us.

The political moment calls for building power for uncompromising anti-capitalist voices and organizing outside of the corporate duopoly for people, peace, and planet. Have you thought about how you can help us achieve this in 2026? There are many ways you can take action:

  • Become a GPWA member: Members can organize local chapters, endorse candidates, elect state party leaders, and elect representatives to the national Green Party US organizations. Learn more about becoming a member here.

NO NUCLEAR PROLIFERATION – Call to Action!

GREENS & anti-war allies in Washington:

NO NUCLEAR PROLIFERATION!

Please make at least one phone call today to the capital switchboard.  202-224-3121

It is an easy few minutes of effort for People, Peace, and Planet. Real human beings are there to listen to your messages, not email-aggregating AI bots. Ask to connect to the office of Senator Cantwell, Senator Murry, or Representative Larson.

In your own words, tell them that:

  • Washington does not want the US to resume nuclear testing
  • Washington supports limits and cuts in nuclear arsenals. The U.S. and Russia must renew the 2010 New START commitment, which expires February 5, 2026.
  • Washington Supports both H. RES. 100 and S. Res. 61 –

“Expressing support for the continued value of arms control agreements and negotiated constraints on Russian and Chinese strategic nuclear forces.”

Pramila Jayapal and Adam Smith are co-sponsors from Washington State.

Ask Rick Larsen to do the same. Call the office, or write to him online, call him at (202) 225-2605, or mail a letter to 2163 Rayburn HOB, Washington, DC 20515.

Some Backstory:

President Trump dropped a bomb and announced in early November that “Because of other countries testing programs, I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis. That process will begin immediately.

In point of fact, the U.S. has not conducted a nuclear test since 1992, China and France last did so in 1996, and the Soviet Union in 1990.

Trump’s order was widely criticized by nuclear scientists and nonproliferation experts, who said that Washington had little to gain from live drills, which would likely only embolden Moscow and Beijing.

Either he is not fully cognizant of what this really means, or he just does not care. Sen. Ed Markey coined the term ‘Trumpatomics’ to characterize this new directive.

Pete Hegseth, everyone’s favorite Guantanamo Bay Alum and, ‘Secretary of War’ apparently lives in an alternate reality where nuclear testing makes us all safer. The ‘us’ he refers to are the weapons & petrol-based dollah big C Capitalists.

In the House, Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada introduced the ‘Renewing Efforts to Suspend Testing and Reinforce Arms Control Initiatives Now’ (RESTRAIN) Act on October 30, 2025.

“With just 97 days until the only arms control agreement between the U.S. and Russia expires, now should be the time to negotiate further arms-control agreements, not create mushroom clouds in the Nevada desert.” – Dina Titus [NV]

In the Senate, Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts, a long-time disarmament advocate, introduced legislation ‘To prohibit the use of funds for an explosive nuclear weapons test’ on October 30.

“The No Nuclear Testing Act would use Congress’s power of the purse to deny the Trump administration from restarting nuclear testing. We should not simply ignore the terrible lessons of the Cold War and expose a new generation of Americans to the horrors of radiation sickness. We will not learn anything new about the nuclear stockpile from new tests; we will only endanger our health and security.” -Ed Markey [MA]

Make that call today!

Call the Capitol switchboard (202-224-3121), where an operator will direct your call to Senator Cantwell or Senator Murray or Representative Larsen. Phone calls leave a stronger impression than a form letter, but ANY ACTION is helpful.

Brian Heywood, the California hedge fund millionaire behind the slew of bad initiatives in 2024, launched two new Initiatives to the Legislature (IL26-638 and IL26-001). While these initiatives single out transgender and LGBTQ+ school-aged children in particular, they threaten the safety, privacy, and dignity of all students. Washington voters have rejected similar attacks before, and these measures are another attempt to sow division and distract from the real issues facing students and families.

These initiatives would:

  • violate student privacy
  • roll back Washington’s successful inclusive sports policy
  • restrict access to counselors and mental health support
  • subject all girls who wish to play with their friends on a school team to invasive and costly physical examinations
  • expose schools to costly lawsuits and increase stigma and bullying in classrooms across the state

Defending Education & Building Alternatives in Washington State

By Cody Mahar-Kjos, Oceana Baker, Giuliana Natale, and Michael Doyle – Green Party of NE Washington

The Crisis Is Here—Will We Fight Back?

With Washington State facing a $13 billion budget shortfall and the U.S. Department of Education officially dissolved, public education is collapsing. Federal education funding is gone. Schools will close, teachers will be laid off, and students—especially from working-class and marginalized communities—will be abandoned.

This is by design. The ruling class has never valued public education because educated, empowered people threaten their control. They want learning to be a privilege, not a right. They want students drowning in debt, not fighting for change.

But we refuse to let them destroy our future.

The Green Party of Washington must take action now to:

✅ Expose the crisis—Tell the truth about what’s happening to our schools.

✅ Organize resistance—Rallies, protests, and mass action to demand real funding.

✅ Build alternatives—A new education system that puts power in the hands of communities.

We don’t have time to wait. The future of our students—and our movement—depends on what we do next.

The Plan: From Awareness to Action

1. Demand Immediate Alternative Funding for Education

If the state claims there is “no money” for education, we must expose their lies and fight for new funding sources:

Progressive Taxation & Closing Corporate Loopholes

Tax the ultra-wealthy—A 1% wealth tax on millionaires and billionaires could generate billions for education.

End corporate tax loopholes—Washington State gave $2.7 billion in corporate tax breaks in 2023 alone. That money could fully fund schools.

Increase capital gains taxes—Make the wealthy pay their fair share.

Redirect State Spending from Police & Military Contracts

Defund bloated police budgets and redirect that money into education, mental health services, and community programs.

End subsidies to war profiteers—Washington is home to major defense contractors like Boeing that receive billions in subsidies while schools are left to rot.

Use Publicly Owned Cannabis & Green Energy Revenue

Take back control of marijuana tax revenue—Much of it currently disappears into the general fund instead of being used for education.

Publicly owned green energy projects could generate sustainable, long-term funding for education.

If politicians refuse to act, they expose themselves as enemies of working-class students and families.

2. Organize a Mass Movement to Defend Public Education

Flood social media with testimonies from teachers, students, and parents.

Hold public town halls and mass rallies to demand action from lawmakers.

Organize school walkouts, teacher strikes, and mass demonstrations—direct action gets results.

Build alliances with labor unions, working-class movements, and student activists.

3. Build a Community-Led Education System

If the state continues to fail, we must take education into our own hands.

Community-Led Education Alternatives

Worker-run and parent-run schools—Cooperative schools where teachers, parents, and students make decisions democratically, completely independent from the state.

Community homeschooling networks—Families and volunteers pool resources to educate children collectively in small, community-driven learning groups.

Education cooperatives—Community-funded schools where tuition is kept low or free through grassroots fundraising, mutual aid, and nonprofit models.

Mutual Aid & Free Community Education Centers

Convert public libraries, community centers, and empty buildings into free educational hubs run by volunteers, retired educators, and community members.

Create a Green Party education fund—A grassroots, people-powered fund to support community schools and homeschooling efforts.

Develop free online education resources—The Green Party and its allies can build open-source curriculums so students have access to high-quality education outside the state system.

Partner with labor unions and worker-owned businesses to fund vocational training and apprenticeships.

We cannot rely on the state to fix this crisis—we must build a decentralized, community-powered education system that puts people before profit.

Campaign to Fund Public Education

The Next Steps: Organize. Mobilize. Win.

Assign regional coordinators to oversee actions and outreach — contact us to get involved.

Launch an immediate social media and press campaign to expose the crisis — campaign presentation.

Schedule the first major town hall or protest event within 30 – 90 days — join us to make it happen!

Begin working with educators and activists to build alternative schooling options — we need your support!

This is our moment to prove that education is a human right, not a privilege. If we don’t fight, who will? If we don’t lead, who will?

The Green Party of Washington must be at the forefront of this battle. We are the ones who believe in people over profit, justice over greed, and knowledge over ignorance.

Call to Action: Stand up. Speak out. Fight back.

For our students. For our communities. For our future.

The Green Party’s Demand for the ERA!

The Green Party calls on President Biden to confirm and publish the Equal Rights Amendment in the US Constitution!

Please join us in our demand for the ERA!

The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is the duly ratified 28th Constitutional Amendment that guarantees equal rights to all people regardless of sex.

The ERA might be our last chance to protect abortion rights before Trump takes office.

The constitutional requirements have already been met:

• The US House approved the ERA in 1971 with a bipartisan vote of 354–24. The Senate approved it in 1972 by another bipartisan vote of 84-8.

• In January 2020, Virginia became the 38th state to ratify the ERA, which means that 3/4 of all the states have ratified it.

So why isn’t the ERA in the Constitution now? Because Trump blocked it.

President Biden can unblock it. He can do so now in his remaining time in the White House.

Extending protections under the ERA is the most important thing President Biden can do right now.

The ERA has widespread support among registered Democrats and Republicans. The Green Party of the US endorses the ERA in its platform: “We support the equal application of the Constitution of the United States of America to all citizens, and therefore call for passage of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).” (https://www.gp.org/social_justice#womens-rights)

Please Write, Text, Email, or Call the President Now! Here’s a sample Message/Letter:

Dear President Biden,

Article II.S3.3.1 requires you to ensure the National Archivist publishes fully ratified amendments to the US Constitution. Please do not leave office before you direct her to add the fully ratified 28th Amendment, the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), into the US Constitution, where it belongs.

As you know, the ERA ensures equality for all genders, equal pay, reproductive rights, and marriage equality.

There is a national outcry for you to save our basic equality and human rights. Project 2025 will roll back these rights even further unless you act now.

Congress and the states have spoken. The People of the USA have spoken. 85% of Americans still want the ERA.

Please publish the ERA immediately.

Solidarity with Boeing Workers on Strike!

Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein and running mate Butch Ware show solidarity with the workers on strike at Boeing!

Join the picket lines with Jill Stein, Butch Ware, Kshama Sawant, and Workers Strike Back on Thursday afternoon, 9/19/2024 at Ace Aviation, 289 E Perimeter Rd, Renton.

On Friday, 9/20/2024, Jill Stein and Butch Ware will join a panel at Raisbeck Hall (2015 Boren Ave, Seattle) with local and national Black Panther Party leaders to discuss Black community issues. This event is open to the public.

On Saturday, 9/21/2024, Jill and Butch will join the Rally and Fundraiser Music Festival at Seward Park from 5 PM to close.

Jill Stein and Butch Ware will also gather with local Greens on Saturday morning, 9/21/2024 (10 AM – 12 noon). More info here!

Last week, Boeing machinists represented by IAM 751 walked out after their contract expired and 96% of Boeing workers voted to strike for higher wages.

The workers on strike are standing up for their right to be compensated fairly for their hard work. The Green Party of Washington commends their courage and insistence on respect, and they deserve our full support. Higher pay for Boeing workers sets a higher pay standard for all workers in our region: a high school graduate whose workplace is not unionized but whose industry is 25% unionized is paid 5% more than similar workers in less unionized industries.

As Greens in Washington, our solidarity is crucial. We have an opportunity to make an outsized impact here in Washington by showing our support:

  1. Join the Picket Lines: If you are able, please consider joining the workers on the picket lines wearing GREEN! Your presence will not only show your support but also strengthen the solidarity between the Green and Labor movements. Remember to bring food, water, and a sign! Picket lines will be ongoing during work hours at Boeing offices and plants throughout Washington including but not limited to:
    1. Boeing Auburn Machine Fabrication MBU
    2. Boeing Renton Factory – Join Jill Stein, Butch Ware, Kshama Sawant, and Workers Strike Back Thursday afternoon, 9/19/2024 (~ 4:30 PM)
    3. Boeing Airfield in Seattle
    4. Boeing Everett Factory
  2. Spread the Word: Use your social media platforms and personal networks to raise awareness about the strike and the issues at stake. Consider writing a letter to the editor of your local newspaper in support of the striking workers. The more people understand the importance of this struggle, the stronger the bargaining position of the workers.
  3. Contribute to Strike Funds: Many workers, particularly newer workers, are facing financial hardships during the strike. Contributions to strike funds can help provide essential support to those in need. The Green Party of Washington has agreed to match all donations up to $1,000 to our Boeing Workers Strike Support Fundraiser here:

Look for updates from the Green Party of Washington about additional solidarity efforts to support Boeing workers as the strike unfolds.

Our solidarity is a powerful tool in this life-or-death fight. By standing together, we can help ensure that the workers at Boeing and beyond achieve the fair treatment they deserve. Let us show them we are united in our support and committed to fighting for their rights.
