Wednesday Workshop #1
Community Care: What to do Instead of Calling the Police

In this first installation of the Sherae for State Workshops, Sherae and friends will discuss how communities can build community care blocs or pods to learn together how to respond to stressful or scary situations in our communities from the lens of community care.

From encountering someone who is mentally decompensated on the corner, to finding someone you don’t know in your backyard, or overhearing what seems to be a domestic dispute next door, learn how harm can be reduced, and communities empowered and mutually cared for in the first of this workshop series.

Format:

This online workshop will begin with a discussion with Sherae and Friends, followed by an opportunity for question and answer.

Accessibility:

We aim to make this a more accessible space; please contact the organizers to share how we can make this workshop more welcoming and accessible to you!

About:
In this four-week series, Sherae Lascelles– community organizer, coalition builder, activist, founder of The Green Light Project, POC-SWOP and a founding member of Decriminalize Seattle who is running for WA State Legislature 43rd District – Position 2 offers community workshops on how to put the current movement for Black Lives, Mutual Aid, Disability Justice, Harm Reduction, and Community Empowerment into practice.

This weekly workshop event is co-produced by Friends of Sherae with Sherae Lascelles for State to build and empower community through shared learning and to support the dream of the Sherae for State, 43rd LD Campaign.
